Russia threatens with military consequences if Sweden, Finland joins NATO
Russia has said it must answer if Sweden and Finland decide to join NATO.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova held a press conference on Friday, reflecting on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Russia’s future intentions.
“Finland and Sweden should not base their security on harming the security of other countries.” and Ms Zakharova.
“Clear [the] Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to NATO, which is first and foremost a military alliance, would have serious military policy repercussions that would require a response from our country. ”
Russia’s comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the country received support from both nations.
“Discussed with [Finnish President Sauli Niinistö] counteracts the attacker. Informed about our defense, insidious shelling of Kiev, “Mr. Zelensky twittrade on Friday.
“Thankful for [Finland] to allocate $ 50 million [in] help. It is an effective contribution to the anti-war coalition. We continue to work. We must raise sanctions and [Ukraine] defense support, he added.
Later, Mr Zelensky twittrade “Sweden provides military, technical and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Thankful for [Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson] for her effective support. Building an anti-Putin coalition together. “
Both Finland and Sweden had condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
