Portugal is already identifying job opportunities for Ukrainian refugees

Sugar Mizzy February 25, 2022

The Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, revealed this Friday in Brussels that he is already identifying specific jobs for Ukrainian children, and said that the European Union will not repeat the mistakes of previous crises of human ministers.

“I was one of the members of the Council who pointed out that Europe must not repeat the situation of unpreparedness already revealed in the past, in the face of crises that appear to be clearly predictable. And, therefore, you must already prepare the reception mechanisms”, said the head of the government this morning, at the end of an extraordinary summit of leaders of the 27 started on Thursday night to debate Russia’s military intention to Ukraine.

Underlining that Portugal reaffirmed its total readiness to “share with all other Member States” the “obligation to ensure a lot of protection from international ministers to all”, “in the specific case of Ukrainians, Portugal has a positive experience with the extraordinary community already almost Ukrainian that there are almost 20 residing” in the country.

“The Minister of State, Joint Economy and Digital Transition and the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security have established contacts with a wide range of companies to identify opportunities for concrete posts”, he revealed. Thus, Portugal is in a position, through the Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional, “to also be able to provide the different data for the professional profile appropriate to the job opportunities, which currently exist happily in Portugal and which are fundamental, in fact, to rehabilitate the Portuguese economy”.

Regarding refugees, António Costa said that Portugal, as he defended in the past, “should be relatively to defend other refugees, which should be to defend the principle of European solidarity, which all States-States that must, due to their geographical proximity, , having a common one, will naturally be the first to be requested in international protection – in this specific case, in all probability it will be Poland”.

As for Portugal, he reiterated that “the immediate granting of visas will be ensured for all those who are family members, friends or acquaintances of residents in Portugal and wish to have already been resident in Portugal”, having already “instructed in this regard” to the consular services and embassies “both in Ukraine and in neighboring countries”.

Russia launches a Thursday a military half in Ukraine, with ground forces in cities and ten of civilian uproar, several Kiev cities, which have already taken place at least one military half in Kiev. Russian President Vladimir Putin says that the “special military operation” in Ukraine aims to “demilitarize and affirm-nazify” the way and that it was the only way for the country to defend itself, the Kremlin that needs a necessary, necessary time, needs to a necessary time. of its “results” and “relevance”.

The attack was immediately condemned by the international community and prompted emergency meetings of several governments, including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the United Nations Security Union. According to data from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, at least 100,000 people have already abandoned their homes in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion and several thousand have crossed the borders rumored to neighbors.
