Liechtenstein accepts all EU sanctions
Ukraine conflict
Unlike Switzerland: Liechtenstein accepts all EU sanctions
The Principality of Liechtenstein fully supports the sanctions of the EU countries. It goes a step further than the Swiss government.
In view of the escalation of the Ukraine conflict, the government in Liechtenstein decided on Friday to “autonomously understand” the EU sanctions, as stated in a statement. This means that the principality “completely” allows the sanctions decided on Wednesday. The law on the enforcement of international sanctions forms the basis for this.
The sanctions imposed by the EU on Friday would also be checked for compliance. Furthermore, the government has promised a framework amount of half a million Swiss francs for the suffering Ukrainian civilian population.
With the full adoption of EU sanctions, Liechtenstein is going one step further than Switzerland. The Federal Council will prevent circumvention of the measures via Switzerland, but has not yet blocked the accounts of the Russian persons on the sanctions list. With this “differentiated position”, Switzerland wants to keep the diplomatic channels open. (dpa)
