The trend of de-escalation of the viral load of sewage continues
The continuation of the trend of de-escalation in the concentration of the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in the municipal waste of Thessaloniki is confirmed by the latest measurements of the week for the research conducted by the Sewage Epidemiology Team of AUTh with EYATH, in the Central Region. Macedonia and in the context of the National Network of EODY.
Specifically, in the samples taken daily at the entrance of the Thessaloniki Wastewater Treatment Plant, regarding the rationalized values related to the secretion of viral load, the average value of the two most recent measurements, namely Monday 21/02/2022 and Tuesday 22/02 / 2022. , is:
Marginally stable (-20%) in relation to the average value of the two immediately preceding measurements of Saturday 19/02/2022 and Sunday 20/02/2022.
Reduced (-32%) compared to the average price of the previous Monday 14/02/2022 and Tuesday 15/02/22.
“Compared to the highest prices of the current month, those that were measured on February 3-5, the current prices are of the order of 60% reduced”, said to APE-MPE the rector of AUTh and the scientific manager of the research project Professor Nikos Papaioannou .
The coronavirus assessment methodology in municipal waste, developed by the AUTh team, streamlines the virus genome concentration measurements based on 24 environmental factors, which may alter the results of the measurements. The molecular method of real-time PCR, developed by the AUTh Team, has the ability to selectively amplify the part of the gene that encodes the Omicron strain protein.
