The floats of the Toulouse carnival expected in the streets on June 4
After two years without a party due to the health crisis, the Toulouse carnival has announced its big return on June 4 in the streets of the Pink City. But while waiting for the big parade of floats in the spring, the Unified Carnival Organizing Committee (COCU) has planned many activities in the months preceding the event, in order to put the people of Toulouse in the leg.
“The carnival normally takes place in April but we were not ready in the finalization of the floats, hence this report in June, specifies Clarissa Désir, the president of the carnival. People are impatiently waiting for the carnival and all the animations upstream, the preparation of the costumes and the floats mark the beginning of the festivities.
It will begin on March 1, Mardi Gras day, with a parade of batucadas, these Brazilian orchestras that will play samba, on the Place du Capitole. On March 30, activities will take place during the Toulouse Ouest carnival and on March 6, the children’s carnival will take over the Saint-Cyprien district, place Estrapade.
The highlight of the festivities: the traditional soapbox race on May 22, in the Jolimont district. “Those who don’t know how to build these soapboxes can go to the Cocu workshops to make them,” says Clarissa Désir. We hope to see lots of people in the streets. » Participants in this course must register on the Toulouse Carnival website. In recent editions, the event has brought together between 50,000 and 80,000 people.
