Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel have taken to social media to make a statement about rumors about their relationship.
“It has come to our knowledge that there is an extensive negative spread of rumors regarding our private relationship”, the Swedish royals wrote. “Accusations are spreading about betrayal in the relationship and an impending divorce.”
They continued, “In normal cases, we do not comment on rumors and speculation. But to protect our family, we want to make it clear once and for all that the rumors that are now spreading are completely unfounded.”
Per AFP“Margareta Thorgren, information manager at the Royal Court, tells Expressen that the unusual comment was made after a long period of rumors circulating despite repeated denials of questions from the media.” For months, Swedish gossip magazines have been speculating in a royal divorce.
Victoria, Sweden’s Crown Princess, is the heir to the Swedish throne as the eldest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silva. At the age of two, she was appointed crown princess before her younger brother, which made her first in the throne due to a parliamentary change in the Swedish inheritance law – changed laws from male growth (the first male son becomes heir) to absolute primogeniture (the first child ). Her younger brother, Prince Carl, is now fourth in the succession and her younger sister, Princess Madeleine, is eighth in the succession.
Victoria married Daniel Westling on June 19, 2010, after dating for eight years. The couple met at a gym in 2001, where Daniel was her personal trainer.
The couple now have two children, 9-year-old Princess Estelle and 5-year-old Prince Oscar.
