Kronsberg-Süd primary school is scheduled to start in August 2024
The city’s building management has now presented detailed plans to the Kirchrode-Bemerode-Wülferode district council for the construction of the Kronsberg-Süd primary school in the Cluster Mitte construction area. Two buildings in light clinker are planned, an underground car park is also part of the building complex, as well as a single-field sports hall. The district center Krokus is also represented with a branch office. “We are glad that the primary school is now in the process and that the crocus is also involved, as we wanted in the district council,” commented Mayor Bernd Rödel (SPD) on the plans.
The three-stream school is being built between Käthe-Paulus-Platz in the east, Ellerie Street in the north and Kattenbrookstrift in the west of the Kronsberg-Süd development area. The entire complex consists of two buildings: the elementary school with auditorium and canteen on two floors and the branch of the KroKus city center with an adjoining sports hall.
No “kiss-and-ride zone” in front of the elementary school
The start of the project after the contract has been awarded is in April of this year, and the city has set the start of construction for the fourth quarter of 2022. The construction will be finished in June 2024, which means that the city has tightened the timing a bit – at the end of 2021 April 2024 was still mentioned. The opening of the primary school with sports hall and crocus should now take place in August 2024, according to Henry Herbig from the municipal construction management.
The city expressly did not take into account a so-called “kiss and ride zone” in front of the school, where parents stop right in front of the elementary school, drop their children off there and then drive on – the aim is to prevent traffic problems in front of the school, as they do elsewhere there are regular, so the city. The main entrance to the school is on Käthe-Paulus-Platz, and care was taken to ensure that the main building does not face the town square, so it runs along Ellerie Street. “The classrooms face the schoolyard,” says Henry Herbig.
School yard is not available
The KroKus district center with a youth club on the upper floor will have its commercial premises in the second building complex, and a variety of events should then be possible there – the elementary school and Krokus were deliberately designed as two independent facilities, according to Matthias Fabich from the Bauen district planning department. The building management emphasized that the single field sports hall next door is not a competition sports hall. A covered connection between the school and the hall is provided as protection in bad weather.
The main user of the sports hall will be the primary school. In principle, club sports are also possible there, but no league games. The underground car park below the hall is intended for the school, the crocus and the sports hall users and has a total of 18 parking spaces. At the request of Christine Jochem (Greens), the city confirmed that the schoolyard is not open to the public after school. It is fenced in and will be locked after school ends.
The school yard will be heavily greened following a decision by the council
Deputy district mayor Regine Kramarek (Greens) recalled that there was a council decision according to which schoolyards should no longer be pure concrete areas when planning new ones, but would have to be greened. This was taken into account, assured the building management. The city has not yet provided any information on the construction costs of the new elementary school in the Bemerode district.
