How many air filters are there actually in the Berlin daycare centers? – BZ Berlin
Thousands of devices for schools have already been manufactured in Berlin. What it looks like in the daycare centers is unclear.
The schools in the capital are now relatively well equipped with air filters. But what is the situation in the day care centers? The Senate is clueless again.
Air filters are designed to reduce the risk of infection by reducing airborne particles containing viruses. The federal government has provided more than one billion euros for fixed and mobile devices in schools and daycare centers. Berlin was also able to use the money to buy thousands of devices for schools.
And what about the kindergartens? In the capital, there are 1,200 independent institutions and 2,750 day-care centers run by the five own companies.

By the end of January, applications for a total of 1,542 air filters had been received by the education administration from 280 daycare centers. Cost: around two million euros. State Secretary Alexander Slotty (37, SPD) gave these numbers to a request from FDP MP Paul Fresdorf (44).
“A central procurement of mobile air cleaning devices for the day-care centers is not possible,” says Slotty. “There is also no knowledge of the type and scope of the air cleaning devices that have been procured in-house.” In other words – the Senate does not know how many air filters there are in day-care centers.
FDP politician Fresdorf criticizes: “A real indictment of the Berlin Senate. How should adequate equipment be purchased on a missing data basis?”
