There are flooded rivers in the north of Bohemia. The wind complicates the operation of trains, it also stopped between Prague and Olomouc – ČT24 – Czech Television
The trees fell on the Prague-Budejovice and Prague-Olomouc lines, but firefighters have a quieter day
So far, the weather has complicated mainly rail transport. The fallen tree damaged the traction line near Hoštejn on the line between Česká Třebová and Olomouc, where long-distance transport runs from Prague to Ostrava, or to the Vsetín or Uherské Hradiště regions. Due to the fallen tree, trains between Čerčany and Benešov do not run on the main line from Prague to České Budějovice. Czech Railways got only two buses to provide alternative transport. Passengers traveling from Benešov to Prague were therefore advised to use bus line 337.
After the train ran into the branches of a fallen tree, traffic also stopped between Majdalena and Třeboň on the line from Veselí nad Lužnicí to České Velenice. Velenice is completely cut off from the Czech railway network, because due to the fall of a tree, trains do not run even from České Budějovice, buses replace them between Jílovice and Velenice. Czech Railways also drew attention to the delays of buses that will load trains during the planned closure between Lipová Lázně and Javorník. They can’t even go to the Tomíkovice and Kobylá nad Vidnavkou stops.
The firefighters from Central Bohemia, who had traveled to hundreds of events in recent days, considered Monday morning to be relatively calm. So far, they have been needed about forty times, which is an above-average number of interventions, but smaller than on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. According to the spokesperson of the regional fire brigade Vladimíra Kereková, it is mainly necessary to clean the fallen trees, other interventions are, for example, loose metal sheets on the roofs and the like.
In the Pardubice region, firefighters also have less work than at the end of last working week, but they have to leave. They intervened, for example, in Sovolusky and Mokošín in the Pardubice region, in Orlické Podhůří in the Orlické Ústí region or in Horní Bradl in the Chrudim region. However, there are fewer departures than on Friday.
Energy companies also report less problems than at the end of the last working week. In southern Bohemia, they do not register any disorder that caused people to be without electricity; in the Pardubice region, about 200 households were dark in the morning. “The failure occurred around 7:00 am in the Chrast and Horka area of the Chrudim region,” said Šárka Lapáčková Beránková, CEZ Group’s spokeswoman for Eastern Bohemia.
Flood on six rivers
The rise of water levels in the first and in the Trutnov region and the second degree of flood activity threatens by 6 pm in the north of the republic, mainly in Bohemia, but also marginally in Silesia and Moravia – from Rumburk to Bruntál.
The level of the Elbe in Stanovice in the Trutnov region rose very quickly to the second degree of flooding on Monday morning, where the third stage was also last week. There was no flood in Stanovice at seven in the morning, but after half past eight the level had already exceeded 225 centimeters, which is the lower limit of the second degree of flood activity. Soon after, however, the water stopped rising.
In the last 24 hours in the Hradec Králové region, it rained the most on Zakletý vrch in the Orlické Mountains, where 46 liters of water per square meter fell. In the Trutnov and Náchod regions, it rained from ten to 30 liters of water per square meter.
In addition to the Elbe, which is flooded in other places, there are five other rivers in the first stage of flood activity – Úpa, Metuje, Divoká Orlice, Jizera and Lužická Nisa. The flood is no longer in Bystřice. According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, there are flood stages at eleven measuring stations, but one of them is at the outlet of the dam.
Strong winds and floods also hit the Czechia last week. On Thursday, due to the damaged line, there were up to 300,000 consumption points without electricity, and there was also a third degree of flood activity on the Elbe. Water flooded cellars or gardens in some places, and a road was closed in the Mladá Boleslav region, which was flooded by water from the flooded Jizera. Not the floods, but the strong wind marked the weekend as well. Fewer people came to the mountains due to bad weather than in previous weeks.
