With a lightning start, THW Kiel lays the foundation for victory
In front of just 500 allowed spectators, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf completely failed to start in the northern duel with Kiel. The guests were formally invited to score goals by a pathetic defensive behavior. The result: after just ten minutes, the “recken” saw it as 1:8. Coach Christian Prokop was forced to take his second break. “Guys, switch on your heads!” the former national coach demanded loudly.
At least it didn’t get much worse for his players afterwards. Or to put it another way: Kiel maintained the lead and led 18:10 at the break.
In the 44th minute, the “warriors” closed the gap to 17:21 thanks to the Swedish European Champion Jonathan Edvardsson. But the team of THW trainer Filip Jicha, who was back on the sidelines after Corona isolation, said with two goals in a row. Steffen Weinhold decided the game with 28:24 (57th). The most successful player from Kiel was Niclas Ekberg with nine goals, while Johan Hansen scored the best for TSV (nine).
Flensburg does not let itself be diverted from the path
In the first half in Nuremberg, it looked as if Flensburg, who were compact in defence, might be able to break away from HC Erlangen. Magnus Röd made it 10:5 (16th). But it shouldn’t be that easy. Erlangen bit into the party and, driven by former Flensburg player Simon Jeppson, closed the gap to 1:15 p.m. at the break.
After the restart, the guests used their chances in attack more consistently, Marius Steinhauser gave the SG a lead of 25:20 towards the middle of the second half (47th). And unlike in the first leg, the Machulla team did not let up in the feeling of a certain victory. The most successful SG player was left winger Hampus Wanne, who converted all of his six throws at the opposing goal (including five penalty kicks).
HSV Hamburg loses unlucky in Wetzlar
After a promising start in Wetzlar, the Hamburg team, who narrowly lost 25:26 (13:14), lost concentration after ten minutes. A 3:4 (10th) quickly turned into a 5:10 (17th). The HSV expected the calm and came up to the break to 13:14. Things went even better after the restart: Dominik Axmann gave HSV coach Torsten Jansen’s team a lead of 18:17 (40th minute).
Ultimately, however, HSG prevailed in a close game. Olle Forsell Schefvert scored the 26:24 with 64 seconds remaining. Casper Mortensen reduced HSV’s lead to 25:26 per seven-metre throw, but it wasn’t enough for more.
