- In the 22nd round of the Super League, FCZ missed their 10th win in a row in Valais, but still scored a point late with a majority.
- Wesley put the Valais in the lead after a little over an hour, Antonio Marchesano (97th) equalized for the guests from eleven meters.
- In the other Sunday games separate Servette and Lucerne as well as GC and YB draw.
A game lasts 97 minutes – and in the end nobody wins. So at least in the duel between Sion and FCZ. With Antonio Marchesano’s converted penalty in the seventh minute of added time, the Zurich midfielder still secured a point for the leaders in Valais with the 1-1. The 9000 spectators experienced a Hitchcock final in a game that had been disappointing for a long time.
Sion defender Dimitri Cavaré made it possible by hitting Zurich’s Akaki Gogia on the foot in the penalty area. With the help of the video images, referee Sandro Schärer decided, among other things, on penalties. After just over an hour, two actions had been prepared for riots in the well-filled tourbillon:
- 62 minutes: After a brief phase of pressure, Wesley shook off his opponent in the half field and scored the 1-0 lead for Sion with a well-placed shot from the edge of the penalty area.
- 65 minutes: With a straddle against Becir Omeragic’s ankle, Cipriano stops a Zurich attack. Referee Schärer shows the Sion player red after the VAR consultation. Sion coach Paolo Tramezzani also receives the red card in the same action.
Zurich’s reaction is long gone
Despite being outnumbered, the leader struggled for a long time to create dangerous scoring chances in front of Sion goalie Kevin Fickentscher’s goal. Neither Assan Ceesay nor Wilfried Gnonto, the goal scorers on duty at Zurich in recent months, found gaps in the compact defensive network of the Valais – until late into injury time.
Already in the first half, both teams lacked the brilliant idea, so that the two goalies experienced a quiet Sunday at the beginning. Yannick Brecher, for example, only had to stretch out for the first time in the 20th minute after a flight from Filip Stojilkovic. What most caused a stir, alongside a shot by Ousmane Doumbia just before half-time, were two serious fouls by Sion’s Baltazar and Gaetano Berardi.
Here’s how to proceed
After the last-minute equalizer, FCZ are feeling good about the “classic” next Sunday (4:30 p.m.) against Basel. Sion also has a difficult task ahead of them: the Valaisans are guests on Saturday evening (6 p.m.) with the reigning champions Young Boys.
