Handball – Hanover – victories for Flensburg and Kiel: Hamburg loses just – sport
Hamburg (dpa/lno) – The handball players from SG Flensburg-Handewitt and THW Kiel have celebrated important victories in the Bundesliga. SG Flensburg-Handewitt prevailed on Sunday with 30:26 (15:13) at HC Erlangen, THW Kiel won at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf with 29:26 (18:10). This means that the Nordclubs are still hot on the heels of leaders SC Magdeburg and still have good cards in the fight for qualification for the Champions League. HSV Hamburg lost to HSG Wetzlar 25:26 (13:14).
Flensburg, who had only drawn against Erlangen in the first leg in their own hall and failed in the cup against Franconia, pulled away after the break. Right winger Marius Steinhauser scored to 21:16 (40th). After a foul on Franz Semper, Christoph Steinert saw the red card (56th). “Flensburg was pretty ripped off and better than us,” said national player Steinert on Sky. Goalkeeper Kevin Möller made a big contribution to the SG’s 14th win of the season with twelve saves. But the Dane remained modest. “I’m nothing without my defense,” said the 32-year-old.
At THW Kiel, trainer Filip Jicha is back in command after his corona isolation. Hendrik Pekeler was also back in the squad. The zebras start with a lot of speed. After the 5:1 (6th) through Niclas Ekberg, Hanover’s coach Christian Prokop saw himself forced to take a first time-out. Four minutes and three goals later, the former national coach needed to be talked about again. The Lower Saxony stabilized, but did not seriously endanger Kiel.
HSV Hamburg suffered their fourth defeat in a row in central Hesse. “We’re having a hard time getting into the game, making as many mistakes as in three games together,” said the strong Dominik Axmann after the final whistle.
The party had to be interrupted for several minutes just before the break. Alexander Feld from Wetzlar, who was under contract with Hamburg from 2014 to 2016, suffered a serious knee injury without any opposition and had to be carried out of the hall on a stretcher. In the second half, Hamburg’s Philipp Bauer was also taken away with a neck injury. Bauer was to remain in Wetzlar overnight for observation.
