In seven of the more than three hundred Dutch municipalities, the majority of councilors are women. It concerns Amsterdam, Dijk en Waar, Wageningen, Baarle-Nassau, Schiermonnikoog, Zoeterwoude and Blaricum. In all other municipalities in the Netherlands, men are in the majority.
Fewer women than before
Nationally, 31 percent of municipal councilors are currently women. According to the Stem op een Vrouw foundation, this is lower than just after the 2018 municipal elections: then it was still 34 percent.
Women in the Amsterdam city council
What about in Amsterdam? As it turned out: we live in a feminist city. The Amsterdam city council is indeed in the majority. It is not much difference: there are 23 women and 22 men in the city council. Yet. And with a female mayor, of course, we already have full points.
Many female party leaders will also participate in the next elections. Curious what those are? You can read that here.
