Jail sentences of up to forty months for failed cocaine removal in port | Antwerp
AntwerpThe criminal court of Antwerp (30) last week has been sentenced to forty months in prison and a fine of 12,000 euros. The healthy drug environment had recruited him to recover a batch of cocaine from a shipment of manganese ore in the port of Antwerp. Three companions who help him with that were given prison sentences of up to three years, partly with a postponement.
A firm had notified the police on July 1, 2021, after it found five suspicious dozen among a shipment of manganese ore being removed from a container. In the dozen are white packages with cocaine, good for 109 kilos in total.
On July 22, steel Flamur M. reported to the company to test the ore. He could not support himself with documents and also did not ask for a helmet, vest or safety shoes, which are nevertheless part of the standard equipment of a sampler. When the company couldn’t tell which container the ore came from, he said he would come back later.
Four days later, he presented himself again, along with three companions, who didn’t even look professional. Instead of asking for help, or having someone from the firm take the sample, the four of them began rummaging through the heavy chunks of ore. The company sensed danger and called the police again, who arrested the four Dutchmen.
