Cynthia Richter (21) will score with “DSDS” with this song
It’s not the first time she’s tried “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” – now Cynthia Richter (21) has finally had success: the trainee from Ricklingen will appear in front of the jury on February 19 and can be seen on RTL from 8:15 p.m. It is now the 19th season of the talent show.
“I sing the song ‘Zu dir’,” the 21-year-old tells us in an interview. Maybe it will bring a portion of extra luck, since singer-songwriter Lea (29) used to live in Hanover. In any case, this time Cynthia Richter decided on a German-language song, so far she had competed in preliminary rounds with English songs. “Three years ago I started writing songs in German with a good friend. I think you’re more successful in this country and it’s easier too.”
The 21-year-old also likes to listen to German pop, otherwise there are pieces from the R’n’B area and the charts in her playlists. Richter has been closely connected to music since childhood, probably thanks to her mother Sara (48). “She used to always sing with me, she actually wanted to be a singer herself.” It was little Cynthia, who did her first performance in kindergarten and also danced a lot.
Cynthia Richter
*18. April 2000 a Gehrden. She grew up in Ronnenberg and graduated from the Marie Curie School. She works in a supermarket before 2019 for three months to Argentina travels to learn spanish. She then begins an apprenticeship hair stylist. She has been living in Ricklingen since 2021. In her free time she likes to read and go with her dog walk, eat with friends and to celebrate (if Corona allows it).
“My parents always predicted that I would do something with music or become a hairdresser,” says the young woman. Now she has both – she is currently completing an apprenticeship as a hairdresser, and the final exam is due in the summer. “I love trying new things, working with colors.” In addition, the only condition her parents had was not only to rely on their passion for music, but also to learn a trade.
Richter has a close relationship with her family, which is also reflected when you take a closer look at her body: she has a tattoo (heartbeat and a breast cancer ribbon) on the inside of her upper arm, which she mentions as mother, the tattooed rose reminds her of her grandmother, die died in 2018. What is the meaning of the Spanish sentence “Todo lo malo tiene también su lado bueno”? “It means ‘everything bad has its good sides,'” she explains. “My mother is Spanish and had cancer. This reminds me that you can take something positive out of everything and emerge stronger from the situation.”
Could she perhaps imagine singing in Spanish as well? “I’m shy because I’m not fluent in the language. My ego gets in the way,” she says. In 2019 she started to improve her language skills and went to Argentina with a friend for three months. “We wanted to do work and travel, i.e. work and travel, but in the end it was just travel.” As soon as the pandemic makes it easier again, she wants to pack her bags again: “I want to see as much of the world as I can just go.”
She accompanied her best friend Kyara (22) to the audition, together they drove to Wernigerode in the Harz mountains. “I would say she was more excited than me,” Richter says, laughing. She herself has already been able to gain a bit of stage experience. “The more often I performed, the more relaxed I became.” And by the way, waiting for the performance was much more nerve-wracking than singing in front of the jurors Florian Silbereisen (40), Toby Gad (53) and Ilse DeLange (44).
Did she actually miss the pop titan and “DSDS” veteran Dieter Bohlen (68)? “No,” she says frankly, “I felt very comfortable with the new jury and think that Florian has the better role.” Let’s see if that also applies to the show – we’ll keep our fingers crossed!
