Weather Service: Heavy gusts of wind in Berlin and Brandenburg
Potsdam/Berlin (dpa/bb) – According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there were severe gusts of wind with wind force 10 in Berlin on Thursday night, and even hurricane-force winds with force 11 in Brandenburg. This is announced by the DWD in Potsdam. Wind speeds of up to 111 kilometers per hour were measured in the Brandenburg state capital and 104 kilometers per hour in Berlin-Dahlem.
There were also hurricane-like gusts in the south of Brandenburg during the night, in Doberlug-Kirchhain (Elbe-Elster) also at speeds of 111 kilometers per hour. In Angermünde (Uckermark), the DWD even measured a value of 125 kilometers per hour. The DWD pointed out that the storm was not over yet.
A severe weather warning is in effect until Thursday evening. After a somewhat calmer phase in the morning, the storm is picking up speed again. The German Weather Service is expecting gusts of force 10 to be widespread again in Berlin and Brandenburg before the storm subsides a little in the afternoon. And that’s only a short break: According to the DWD, the next severe storm is already expected on Saturday night.
