Covid-19 mutations in Greece: “O” is dominant
Almost complete dominance of the “O” strain in the country is shown by the genomic analysis by the National Network of Genomic Operation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which operates under the coordination of EODY, for the period January 3, 2022 to February 7, 2022.
According to the analysis from the control of 1,181 samples, a total of 1,100 samples were identified with members of special interest (Variants Of Concern – VOC). Of the 1,100 specimens with special interest strains, 1,042 data in the Omicron strain (B.1.1.529) and 58 in the Delta B.1.617.2 (VOC-21APR-02). In addition, 1 strain B.1.575 was detected. One of the 58 Delta executives concerns the executive ΑΥ.4.2 and was located in the Peripheral Unit of Piraeus.
Twenty-two of the 1,042 Omicron area strains in strain BA.2, which were detected in an introductory case and in 21 domestic cases in the Peripheral Units of Achaia (1), the Northern Sector of Athens (2), the Western Sector of Athens (1) , Evia (1), Ilia (2), Heraklion (7), Thessaloniki (1), the Central Sector of Athens (2), Lassithi (1), Messinia (1), the Southern Sector of Athens ( 1) and Samos (1).
Since the launch of the SARS-CoV-2 National Genomic Operation Network, a total of 48,687 samples of domestic cases have been tested in the country. Of these, 43,958 came from random sampling, 3,988 came from targeted sampling or sampling, and for 741 samples no sampling information is available.
During the two months before February 7, 2022, a total of 7,680 samples of domestic cases had been tested in the territory. Of these, 7,238 came from random sampling and 442 from targeted sampling or sampling. Among the 7,238 randomly selected samples in the territory you mentioned in the two months prior to February 7, 2022, the two most common special interests isolated are Delta with 38%, followed by Omicron with 62%. Among the 442 samples sampled or targeted during the two months prior to February 7, 2022, 75% to the Omicron strain and 25% to the Delta strain.
In addition, a total of 639 members of special interest or under surveillance or interest were isolated from samples of imported cases, of which 336 were in Delta, 169 in Omicron, 113 in Alpha, 7 in Mu, 6 in Beta, 4 in B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 1 in Eta, 1 in C.36, 1 in Kappa, and 1 in B.1.1 (Variant E484K).
