BOLA – Portugal beats Norway and writes another page of history (Women’s Football)
Gala exhibition and luxury result. Portugal beat Norway, 2-0, in the first round of the Algarve Cup 2022, in a match held on the afternoon of this Wednesday, at the Estádio Municipal de Lagos.
The corners team made their intentions clear in the first move of the challenge, Diana Silva, at 30 seconds, and following an excellent assist from Ana Borges, a hat that came out when it went over Norway’s goal. Shortly after, in the 20th minute, Francisca Nazareth, after a pass from Andreia Norton, also shot over. The threats made… they had yet to be carried out. That’s what Tatiana Pinto did, who, with a left-footed cross shot, opened the scoring. Justice was delayed… but it did not fail. And until the break, the best opportunity to belong to the national team again, with Andreia Norton, from a direct free-kick, the crescent to the bar. On the other hand, Norway’s attack attempts were never threatening to the Portuguese defender.
In the complementary stage, and as expected, Norway went up, and their lines increased the pressure that Portugal had to recover on the ground. Even so, it should be noted, as Portuguese players, maintaining an irreproachable posture, almost always controlling operations. The only goal worthy of the Norwegian team’s name came in the 80th minute, when Julie Blackstad shot Inês Pereira’s crossbar.
But this move had the power to revitalize Portugal, which in the last 10 minutes returned to the charge… until scoring. Jéssica Silva and Tatiana Pinto almost scored, but the Portuguese party would end up appearing at the end of the curtain, with a spear to see and… review: Jéssica Silva, literally (!) made a deadly assistance to Carolina Mendes who, at the Aurora Mikalsen’s departure, made a wide drop and made the final 2-0.
This is a historic victory for Portugal (29th in the FIFA ranking), since it is only the second Portuguese triumph against Norway (which is in 12th place in the FIFA ranking) – the first had been on March 2018, also 2-0, and also in the Algarve Cup. And they still say that there are no coincidences…
Portugal returns to action next Sunday, against Sweden (17.15 hours), at Estádio Algarve.
It is recalled that in this Algarve Cup 2022 participants, two teams from Portugal, Norway, Sweden and not only participate in the teams of Portugal, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, in a format that equips them only in this first phase, they play all matches (plays all each other). The first two classified qualify for the end of the tournament, scheduled for the 1st of next Wednesday, the 23rd, at Estádio Municipal de Lagos, with three teams playing 4-minute matches5 against each other to complete the final classification.
