In most parts of Slovakia, it can blow sharply on Thursday, with exceptionally strong winds to be expected in the mountains.

This is pointed out by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, which issued a first- to third-degree warning. He informs about it on his website.

Storms and hurricane

Snow tongues and snowdrifts may continue to form in some northern districts. The passage of the cold front can exceptionally be accompanied by storms.

Third-degree wind warnings in the mountains apply to the districts of Tvrdošín, Ružomberok, Liptovský Mikuláš, Poprad, Banská Bystrica and Brezno. According to meteors, the wind can reach speeds of 110 to 130 kilometers per hour on average, 160 to 180 kilometers per hour in gusts, which represents “mighty storm to hurricane”.

Second-level warnings apply provisionally to the districts of Námestovo, Dolný Kubín, Žilina, Martin and Turčianske Teplice. The wind speed can reach 135 to 160 kilometers per hour in gusts, the average on the ridges can reach 90 to 105 kilometers per hour, which is “a strong to mighty storm.”

The necessary wind in the mountains should also be taken into account in some northern districts of western Slovakia, but also in central Slovakia in the east of the country, where first-degree warnings apply.

The storm will start in the mountains

The wind in the gusts to reach a speed of 10 to 135 kilometers per hour can on average reach speeds on the ridges of the mountains can be around 75 kilometers per hour, which is a storm.

Most of western Slovakia, for which second-level warnings apply, will not avoid stronger winds. The wind can reach an average speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour, in gusts of 85 to 105 kilometers per hour.

It is also blowing more significantly in central Slovakia and the northern districts of eastern Slovakia. Meteorologists expect an average wind speed of 45 kilometers per hour, in gusts of 65 to 85 kilometers per hour.

Bratislava on the lookout

The city forests in Bratislava take place for safety reasons during the fourth visit to the forest park. again, there are warnings against strong winds issued by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute. The city organization informs about it on the social network.

“I expect a very strong wind on Thursday. Under such conditions, healthy trees can also fall, so for safety reasons, postpone the visit to the forest for another day.” invites the city organization.

The Bratislava city district of Nové Mesto, in the cadastral area, which is located, for example, Železná studnička or Koliba, also calls for caution. “Avoid places where there may be an accident due to the wind, and you should postpone a visit to nature.” council of self-government.

The SHMÚ also issued second-level warnings for Bratislava on Thursday. The wind can reach speeds of an average of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour, in gusts of 85 to 105 kilometers per hour. Alerts are preliminarily valid from 9:00 to 18:00. Later, the wind speed may weaken slightly, a first-degree warning should apply by midnight.
