BFF realizes the Cloche d’Or discount center

Tram
The architecture firm won Luxtram’s call for projects. The project should be submitted by the end of the year.
It is a long-term project but one of great importance for the further development of the tram in Luxembourg. The architectural firm Beiler François Fritsch won the call for projects relating to the new Luxtram repair and maintenance center at Cloche d’Or.
The call for projects consists more of an intellectual service contract for carrying out preliminary design studies for the building and the building system, environmental impact assessment, detailed preliminary design for the building as well as the delivery of an architectural service for the building.
No precise work schedule or budget has been put forward at this time, but the project should be submitted by the end of the year. A vote should therefore take place in 2023.
Subject to a financing law
This new project will be, as for all those which concerned the tram previously, the object of a law of financing. This type of law applies to all projects whose budget exceeds 40 million euros. 345 million euros were voted in July 2014 for the construction of the first section between Luxexpo and the central station. This was added to 214 million euros to allow the realization of two extensions, one towards the Findel, the other towards the Cloche d’Or.
The new discount center will therefore not come out of the ground right away. The budget for its construction is between 90 and 100 million euros, according to information from our colleagues from Paper jam. It is therefore a major project, since it must be used to accommodate the brand new frames of several new lines. Including the second from Kircherg. This should lead to the construction of new housing areas on the plateau overlooking the capital. The route of the future should take Boulevard Pierre-Frieden from the Serra roundabout towards the new districts, then continue on Boulevard Adenauer to the Pont Rouge and the stop in front of the Pfaffenthal funicular.
This is what the route of the new Kirchberg tramway line could address.

The construction of the second Kirchberg line could begin with the next legislature. The main difficulty that will arise on the tram route will be crossing the Märtesgronn, a protected natural area. A bridge should thus be integrated above the valley.
A network of the capital and the country
This new line will not be the only one. It is planned to create a real network in order to structure the future development of the capital but also of the country, via the fast connection between Luxembourg-City and Esch-sur-Alzette, which should see the light of day within ten years. . Reaching the Uni from the Cloche d’Or should then take 26 minutes. More than a new tram line, it will be a real multimodal corridor, with the use of emergency lanes by buses and vehicles practicing carpooling and an express bike lane.

For the objective set to make the fast tram circular to Esch-Schifflange in 2028 to be respected, the financing projects must be submitted by the end of the year. A date on which the texts allowing the extension of the tram along the road to Arlon via the hospital center must also be submitted to the Chamber.
