San Marino. A training course for aspiring beekeepers is underway
The Sammarinesi Beekeeping Cooperative promotes a Training Course for all those who intend to approach the world of bees and the ancient craft of beekeeping, with the aim of promoting knowledge of this discipline and undertaking this activity with the right skills.
The lessons of the course are open to all interested parties, and will be held by the beekeeping expert Marco Valentini, on the digital platform “Zoom” which can be downloaded for free.
Below is the program of the course.
PROGRAM
• Lesson 1 – 02/24/2020 8.00 pm – 10.00 pm
Introduction and description of the course
The bee and the man, a coexistence that has lasted for a million years (importance of the bee for man, agriculture, the environment).
Beekeeping, an ancient art (evolution of beekeeping techniques from the first to traditional beekeeping).
The tools for beekeeping: the hive and its parts.
The critical points of the hive: how not to make a mistake in the purchase.
• Lesson 2 – 03/03/2020 8.00 pm – 10.00 pm
The hive is a super organism (classification, evolution of social life, caste determinism, development stages of bees).
Anatomy, morphology, physiology and physiognomy of the bee.
How to start bee farming.
The choice of bees: artificial nuclei, natural swarms, packs of bees.
The chrono programs the work of the beekeeper month by month
• Lesson 3 – 03/10/2020 8.00 pm – 10.00 pm
Honey: origin, composition, physical, alimentary, biological properties, processing equipment
The defects of honey: identification, causes, remedies, related technology Notions of beekeeping botany
General principles of sensory analysis with tasting of the main Italian unifloral honeys
• Lesson 4 – 17/03/2020 20.00 – 22.00
The production of pollen, royal jelly and propolis
Origin, composition, physical, alimentary, biological properties of the other bee products.
The equipment for harvesting and processing
• Lesson 5 – 03/24/2020 8.00 pm – 10.00 pm
Diseases of bees: diseases of the brood and diseases of adult bees
Biology, morphology, development cycle of the main bee diseases
Varroa: biology and development cycle
Varroa summer and winter control
The new emergencies: Vespa velutina and Aethina tumida
• Lesson 6 – data to be defined (to be agreed during the theoretical lessons)
Visit and practical lesson at the apiary located in the BioParco Apistico – Republic of San Marino or alternatively in the Regional Park of Monti Rognosi (research center on the conservation of the ligustica bee by Bioapi – Cultural center of organic and natural beekeeping)
Duration of the lesson: 9-13; 14.00-18.00
This visit will be carried out by own means
Cost: € 80.00 to be paid by bank transfer to the IBAN SM11D06067098010000101003322 in the name of the Sammarinese Beekeeping Cooperative. Inclusion of name / surname / registration in the 2022 training course in the reason for payment.
The balance must be paid on the day of the first lesson.
