Hazel and alder pollen in the air – BZ Berlin
Allergy sufferers sometimes already have to fight, because the pollen count is already underway.
“At the moment, the two allergenic pollens of hazel and alder are mainly flying in the Berlin area,” said Matthias Werchan from the German Pollen Information Service Foundation of the German Press Agency.
The alder pollen count is currently picking up and as long as it is sunny, dry and windy and the temperature is above zero, heavy pollution can often be expected for the rest of the month. The pollen count on hazel is decreasing, but still causes moderate pollution.
In addition, the pollen count begins in other early-blooming tree species. “This is how yew pollen is being measured to an increasing extent. Elm, willow, poplar and the first cypress plants will probably be added in February,” says Werchan.
From mid-March at the earliest, the first birch and ash pollen could fly. If late winter weather sets in, the start of the birch pollen flight can be delayed until well into April. According to Werchan, the reason for the early start of the pollen count this year is again the mild winter.
