3rd metro line in Toulouse: the war memorial will be dismantled
To build the François-Verdier metro station on the 3rd line, the war memorial on Boulevard Carnot will be dismantled. Several options have been studied for what will be, in terms of impact, one of the black spots of the huge metro project.
The operation promises to be spectacular. The monument to the Combatants on boulevard Carnot, in Toulouse, which Toulouse residents simply call war memorials, will be dismantled as part of the construction of the François-Verdier station on the 3rd metro line. Several options have been studied by Tisséo Ingénierie, the contracting authority: dismantling but also moving or protecting on site.
In a deliberation which must be voted on this Wednesday, February 16, the elected representatives of the joint public transport union, Tisséo Collectivités, will act on the principle of dismantling this imposing building. A call for tenders from companies will be launched. And the terms of this operation will be specified later.
Right in the city centre, to ensure the connection with line B of the metro, the François-Verdier station will be one of the sites with the greatest impact on car traffic and the neighbourhood. To preserve the alignment of the hundred-year-old plane trees of the Allées Verdier, the underground station has been relocated under the monument.
Work on the 3rd metro line will begin in the fall of 2022 with the Daturas workshop garage and two wells. Five tunnel boring machines will be in operation. The years 2023, 2024 and 2025 constitute the peak of the construction site with a view to commissioning scheduled for the end of 2028.
