ICE highlights: Salzburg concedes defeat, VSV run continues
The VSV thus moved closer to Salzburg in the table. The leaders lost at home to Olimpija Ljubljana 2:3 (1:1,0:0,1:2). For the KAC it started 4: 5 at home against Pustertal (2: 2.2: 0.0: 3).
Turbulent game in Villach
The Villachers took the lead in Znaim in the power play through Rick Schofield (8th), but the home side – the strongest team in the league at home – turned the game around until the third break. In the middle third it’s one after the other. Chris Collins and Benjamin Lanzinger scored to make it 2-2 and 3-3 respectively. In the final minute, Kevin Moderer was there to make it 4:3 for VSV. There was no goal in the last 20 minutes. VSV goalie Andreas Bernard saved a total of 36 shots by the Czechs.

Raffl with 800th bet
In Salzburg, captain Thomas Raffl made his 800th league appearance. The 35-year-old is the 13th player to break this mark. Raffl’s team, where head coach Matt McIlvane reported back to the bench after a corona infection, went about it briskly. Florian Baltram scored seconds after the end of a Salzburg power play to make it 1-0 (9th). But Ljubljana managed to answer. The slow five minutes later, after a goalless middle period, Bastien Maia and Guillaume Leclerc scored twice (52′, 53′) for a 3-1 lead for the guests.
Salzburg can no longer turn the tide. TJ Brennan brought the leader back up 56 seconds before the final siren, more was not possible. The convalescent top striker Peter Schneider was still missing for the “Bulls”.
Pustertal surprises against KAC
After losing 3-0 in the final third, KAC left the ice as losers. Greg Carey played decisively for the South Tyroleans 68 seconds before the end. After 40 minutes, Klagenfurt was still 4:2 ahead. Clemens Unterweger wrote for the first time after just 22 seconds, while Matt Fraser, Niklas Würschl and Fabian Hochegger scored the other goals for the Carinthians. After four wins in the last five home games, KAC left the ice again as losers. The Klagenfurt are now fourth in the table, the “wolves” from Bruneck maintained their chances of a top six place.
