3:4! EXA Icefighters Leipzig concede victory against the Hannover Indians
Leipzig. After the twelfth win in a row on Friday evening (6:3 at Diez-Limburg), Sven Gerike knew: “Our opponents from Hanover are in full swing, so we’ll have to step it up a notch.” The words of the IceFighters trainer came true on Sunday evening against the Indians.

Leipzig led 2:0 after 4:0 minutes through Marvin Miethke and Thomas Voronov, after 47 minutes it was even 3:1 through Maximilian Spöttel. But in the final minutes, the Lower Saxony turned up the heat in the Leipzig ice circus and, thanks to the 3:3 equalizer (0:0, 2:0, 1:3), forced the Saxons, who had been leading for a long time, into extra time five minutes before the end. In the gripping Oberliga match, the guests who ended up being stronger gained the upper hand with an overtime goal in the 64th minute, which was not undeserved.

If you think that the Saxons had a difficult time due to their second quarantine in 2022, then a look at Friday’s opponent shows: It can get worse. In the comeback game at EG Diez-Limburg, Leipzig were able to muster three rows, while the hosts scraped together ten players and thus their last squad.
The Exa Icefighters were not challenged too hard in the first match after almost two weeks and scored a deserved 6:3 victory, whereby the last two goals were only conceded in the final minute. Trainer Sven Gerike said: “It wasn’t that easy for us at first, the running paths and the speed aren’t there yet. But that got better and more structured over the course of the game.” It continues on Tuesday (8 p.m.) with the Scorpions.
