Valentin Dimov is the new captain of Bulgaria for the Davis Cup – TennisKafe
Valentin Dimov is the new captain of the Bulgarian team for the Davis Cup. He succeeds Teodor Bachev, who will continue to be in the team, but in the role of assistant. Dimov will make his debut as captain in the qualifying match against Paraguay in World Group II.
Dimov is 32 years old and has four singles titles from the state championship, as well as several gold medals from team tournaments. In 2009 he won the title of the Futures tournament in Yambol, and partners Tihomir Grozdanov and Todor Enev reached five doubles finals in competitions of this level. The man from Sofia is part of the Bulgarian team for the Davis Cup in 2009, and his highest ranking in the world rankings is №621.
“I am already aware of the team’s technical team and it has been determined. Fitness coach will be Kiril Simeonov – personal fitness coach for years of Dimitar Kuzmanov. He was also on the Davis Cup team last year. The masseur and therapist will be Lyubomir Panev, who has been working with the women’s national team for the Fed Cup for several years, and has the Olympic Games behind him. The doctor of the team, as well as the weather will be again Prof. Georgi Popov – said Valentin Dimov. – I ask that we have formed a very good team – with excellent professionals, each in their field. Last year we were together with Teddy Bachev, now we have exchanged roles. We both believe that we will be able to get the most out of the knowledge and experience of each member of the team and this outlines a good future for the team. Our visions with Teddy for the game, for the matches, for the players are hidden and this is the basis for fruitful work “- comment Valentin Dimov on the website of BF Tennis.
He also shared his clash about the upcoming clash with Paraguay.
“Our goal, of course, is to win against Paraguay. The ambitions and goals are to climb to the top group. The question is that we are the favorite against Paraguay – we have more experienced tennis players who play more for the Davis Cup and have been in tennis for a long time – said the captain. However, this is not to be underestimated – for example, the Paraguayans will play one of the best teenagers at the moment – Adolfo Vallejo, who last month reached the semifinals of the youth tournament at the Australian Open. But our goal is one – victory.
The matches against the South American team will be held on March 4 and 5 in Sofia Hall.
