The Zurich Transport Authority (VBZ) is forced to restrict public transport around the Letzigrund stadium from the game on February 13, 2022. After football games, there were always critical situations for passengers and VBZ employees in terms of safety, the VBZ explained the step on Friday in a statement.
Specifically, shortly before the end of the game next Sunday, the operation of lines 2, 3 and 31 around the Letzigrund stadium will be interrupted for around an hour until “the situation has normalized”, it is said. During this time, the trams and buses will run on the following routes:
-
Tram line 2 only runs between Schlieren Geissweid and Grimselstrasse and between Kalkbreite and Tiefenbrunnen station.
-
Line 3 only runs between Klusplatz and Kalkbreite.
-
Line 31 only runs between Hermetschloo and Altstetten station and between Hardplatz and Kienastenwies.
The VBZ reserve the right to accept further restrictions and recommend that passengers to and from Albisrieden and Altstetten use the S-Bahn if possible.
The transport company is reacting, among other things, to an incident last December. At that time one had to Tram pilot after an attack being brought to the hospital by football fans. According to the VBZ report, there were also various dangerous situations at the Letzigrund stop following the city of Zurich football derby between Grasshopper Club Zurich and FC Zurich last weekend. People tried to climb onto a tram and came close to the high-voltage lines.
The rapidly growing number of visitors to the games makes the situation even more confusing and makes safe operation impossible at times, so VBZ die. As part of the municipal committee “Doppelpass”, they now want to examine various measures to improve security during football games in the Letzigrund stadium.
