Prague – The second part of the reconstruction of the Barrandov Bridge for Prague will be done by Porr for 594.5 million crowns. The spokesperson of the Municipal Technical Administration of Roads (TSK) Barbora Lišková informed ČTK about this in a press release today. Reconstruction of the bridge will begin in the first half of May and last four years. According to the company, the competition managed to reduce this year’s traffic restrictions from the originally known 180 to 110 days, when traffic on the bridge will always be limited in one of the four lanes in each direction. The preparation of the work has recently been criticized by the opposition ODS.
The first part of the courtyard was opened in 1983 and has not yet been completely repaired. The bridge is part of the city ring road and is crossed by about 140,000 cars a day. Last year, TSK repaired the lower parts of the structure, for which it was not necessary to limit traffic. From this year on for four construction seasons, workers will work on the upper part, which will bring restrictions for drivers every year.
“The contract was for the first time in the history of the city of the competition so that the price and the time of traffic restrictions played the same role,” said Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě). He added that the limitation of the month has decreased significantly and this year it will come in the summer, when traffic is the weakest. Both of these criteria had a weight of 40 percent in the evaluation of bids, the remaining 20 percent fell on the experience of bidders. Four bids arrived.
Next year, traffic on the bridge should be limited to 92 days, the same as in 2024. In 2025, according to TSK, the restriction will last 82 days. In total, the competitive bid for the entire period of repairs counts on 376 days compared to the original 973. Porr achieved the company’s best rating according to all criteria with a gain of 90.33 points, the second company Strabag had 72.57 and the remaining two bids did not exceed 35 points.
Reconstruction will start for the first time this year with the demolition and construction of a new ramp from Strakonická Street. “It is calculated here from the detour route, which will be marked. The route is now being discussed, as well as modifications to other communication networks, ie on the so-called relief routes. Reconstructions and repairs will be prohibited on detours and relief routes,” Lišková said recently.
The reconstruction has recently been criticized by the opposition ODS, according to which the city did not provide sufficient information about preparations for repairs and known bypass routes. “In a situation where there is a threat of a collapse of traffic in the whole of Prague – and all politicians know this well – silence is not a well-chosen strategy,” said the mayor of Prague 13 and city councilor for the Civic Democrats David Vodrážka recently. According to him, Scheinherr refused, according to him, the city is working hard on all the preparations and this is an election campaign on the part of the ODS.
Prague has had problems with bridges for a long time. In 2020, a new footbridge was opened from Imperial Island to Troja. The original collapsed at the end of 2017. The Libeň or Hlávkův bridge, which is preparing to repair the TSK, is in poor condition. In the case of the Libeň Bridge, it has already selected a contractor and work should begin this year. Reconstruction also requires the Palacky Bridge.
