The agreement between our country and the Republic of Moldova, signed on Friday, February 11, provides for the construction of a border road bridge over the Prut, between the city of Ungheni in the Republic of Moldova and the Romanian village of Ungheni, located on the other side of the Prut River.
The document was signed today in Chisinau, after the joint meeting of the Governments of the two countries, chaired by Nicolae Ciuca and Natalia Gavrilița, the Moldovan agency reports. IP n.
The construction of the bridge will interconnect the road infrastructures between the states: Târgu Mureș – Iași – Ungheni Highway – state border (Romania) and the National Road R1 Chisinau – Ungheni – border with Romania (Moldova).
The actual construction works of the bridge will be financed by Romania, as well as the access road, including the related infrastructures, located on the territory of our country.
How will the expenses be shared between Romania and the Republic of Moldova?
The Chisinau government will finance the construction of the access road and related infrastructure on the part of the Republic of Moldova.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, and the Moldovan Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu, signed today the document on the construction of the new road bridge.
The two officials also signed the Agreement on technical, financial, legal and organizational issues related to the consolidation of the border road bridge between the two states, over the Prut River, between Giurgiulesti (Moldova) – Galati (Romania).
“The agreements aimed at building a bridge over the Prut River between Ungheni and Ungheni, respectively consolidating the border road bridge between Galați and Giurgiulesti have a strong practical and symbolic significance regarding the connection between Romania and the Republic of Moldova,” Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca said on Friday.
In total, Romania and the Republic of Moldova signed 11 bilateral documents, including a memorandum on cooperation in the field of energy security.
