Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca spoke to the Moldovan press about the current political and geopolitical context.
Ciuca goes with a “baggage with documents” to Chisinau
“We must say very clearly that we are coming to Chisinau with an important baggage of documents to be signed between various ministries. The areas on which we do not focus are on interconnection in the field of transport and infrastructure and energy, cooperation to support the European road of the Republic of Moldova, the configuration of a new package of non-reimbursable assistance. We can all see how energy prices have risen dramatically, not least because of market manipulation and direct action by the Russian Federation, which has introduced turmoil in the European market with a view to authorizing Nord Stream 2. ” Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca said for open.mdjust before the joint government meeting Romania – Republic of Moldova, in Chisinau, which will take place on Friday.
“Romanians are with you”
The Prime Minister also said that “we want this visit to be a reassurance of colleagues and counterparts in Chisinau, but especially of the population of the Republic of Moldova, that Romania and Romanians stand by you, support you and help you in the most difficult moments. We state very clearly this solidarity, given that it falls only in the whole of Europe, but also Romania is becoming the subject of excessive increases in gas prices and market manipulation to the Russian Federation, including due to massaging troops around the borders of Ukraine. which. gas supply pipelines for Central and Eastern Europe. “
Romania and natural gas
Asked if Romania could provide gas for the Republic of Moldova, the prime minister replied: “Romania has the prospect of resolving, in the short term to the medium term, the supply with a view from the West to the East. We currently have two ongoing projects, the Vertical Corridor, Greece – Bulgaria to Romania – which the first Bulgarian assured me would be ready in June – and BRUA, the Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary-Austria corridor, both bringing gas from new sources ( including from the Southern Gas Corridor). In the medium term, we expect to enter production – in 3-5 years – the offshore resources (no gas resources from the Black Sea) of Romania, which can supply gas including the Republic of Moldova. Of course, it is not a solution for tomorrow, but until then we are trying to find other energy resources and other solutions to be able to compensate the deficits in the production of electricity and heat necessary for the Republic of Moldova. Of course, we are still limited by the commitments already made by Chisinau through the contract with Gazprom and the Moldovan gas distributor Moldovagaz, about which we hope that the future audit of contracts and gas supplies will clarify the situation of debts and payments required for the new . gas price. “
“The system will always be resistant to change”
Nicolae Ciucă says about the chances for the Republic of Moldova to join the EU: “Of course it exists, and we know it through our situation and experience. It is important that the requirements are met and that the necessary reforms are put in place – which are for the people, for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, not for the European bodies. Then the gaps in democratic development, the resettlement of societies, the fight against corruption and the building of the rule of law must be filled. It’s not easy, we have our own experiences, and the system will always be resistant to change. But with political will, with a serious majority, with the support of the population in this direction, nothing can block their development, evolution, trust in their conditions and conditions. It’s not an easy road, and someone says there are no happy reforms. But it is the only way to succeed. Otherwise, it is difficult for citizens to trust the rulers. ”
