President: Lithuania values Germany as a reliable strategic partner
President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda pays a working visit to Germany. On Thursday afternoon, the head of state met with German President Frank Walter Steinmeier.
The meeting of the Presidents of Lithuania and Germany focused on co-operation between the two countries on security, defense and economic issues.
The President emphasized that Lithuania valued Germany as a reliable strategic partner and thanked Germany for its contribution to the collective security of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) flank. According to the President, the deployment of more troops by the Russian military forces in Belarus and at the border with Ukraine, apparently by Germany, in Lithuania, has sent a clear decision on behalf of the whole NATO.
“Lithuania is ready to accept more allied forces and take care of all the necessary infrastructure and support in the territory of our state. “Increasing Allied forces in our region is a key deterrent,” he said.
On the eve of the Lithuanian leader’s visit, it was announced that Germany was increasing its contingent in the NATO EFP Battalion’s combat group in Lithuania.
