The surgery for the poor in Prague has been operating for a month. Extension of its services
“Since the start of operations, the state has been visited by 180 different people, 63 of whom were foreign nationals without valid health insurance. The number of visits to the surgery was 290 during the month of operation,“said general practitioner Andrea Pekárková, who works in the outpatient clinic.
According to Salvation Army representatives, the ambulance operates as an official medical facility and offers all the services of a general practitioner. Health care is tailored to the specific needs of homeless people. Patients are also provided with other fees for free, as needed extract from the documentation, entrance examination to the job or issuance of a medical certificate, inform Pekárková earlier. The surgery also offers care to uninsured persons and people without documents.
Since mid-February, the outpatient department, which operates the Salvation Army in Prague 7, has had extended office hours. Until now, a general practitioner in the Surgery for the Poor prescribed three days a week.
The Salvation Army operates a similar surgery in Ostrava. In Prague, the Naděje organization also runs a surgery where they take care of homeless people. The ambulance has been on U Bulhara Street below the Prague highway since 2006 and is part of a low-threshold center for homeless people.
