French Cup: Versailles eliminates Bergerac and joins Monaco in the semi-finals
Versailles won the duel of Petits Poucets and N2 clubs by dominating Bergerac on penalties (1-1, tab 5-4), this Wednesday, February 9, to qualify for the semi-finals of the Coupe de France.
Versailles (N2) obtained its ticket for the semi-finals of the Coupe de France by dismissing Bergerac (N2) (1-1, 5-4 on penalties) in the duel of amateur clubs, Wednesday at the Francis- Rongieras in Périgueux.
The Versailles, who play in the fourth rung, opened the scoring thanks to their midfielder Inza Diarrassouba (14th), with a nice whipped shot from the right foot.
Bergerac equalizes in the 90th minute
But striker Christopher Ibayi received a red card (79th) and Bergerac took the opportunity to equalize through striker Axel Tressens (90th).
Dordognais defender Kevin Mingoua failed in the penalty shootout.
Versailles, TFC scorer (1-0) in the previous round, joins Monaco, first qualified Tuesday in the last four of the Coupe de France. Nice-Marseille, this Wednesday evening, then Nantes-Bastia, Thursday, allow to know the identity of the last two qualified.
The draw for the semi-finals will take place this Wednesday evening, after Nice-Marseille, and will be carried out by Didier Deschamps, coach of the France team.
Only the fifth N2 club to reach the last four
Entering the 4th round of the event, eight games ago, FC Versailles 78 is only the fifth 4th division club in history to reach the semi-finals.
Before him, only Calais RUFC (2000), FC Montceau-Bourgogne (2007), US Quevilly (2010) and GFA Rumilly Vallières in 2021 had achieved this feat. Only one has reached the final: it is Calais, beaten by Nantes (1-2) in 2000.
