Prague has a study of the deepening of the Industrial Circuit in Hloubětín
Further modifications of the semicircle are also planned, which should start as early as this year. In total, the works should cost an estimated six billion crowns and could be completed in 2028.
The industrial semicircle consists of Kbelská and Průmyslová streets and connects Letňany in the northeast with Štěrboholy in the southeast of the metropolis. According to the municipality, 35,000 to 85,000 vehicles pass through it every day, and in fact, according to the mayor’s deputy, Adam Scheinherr, it serves as an unfinished inner and outer circuit. “We need to increase its capacity, because it is a construction that will significantly help the flow of traffic in the eastern part of the city this decade. Removal of the column using the flow of traffic. Thanks to the modification of the crossroads and the new Hloubětín tunnel, we will increase the capacity of the narrow neck of the Industrial Semicircle by up to half, “he said.
In the past, the city considered expanding the semi-circuit in Malešice by two lanes, but withdrew from it. According to the study, the traffic complications on the semicircle are not caused by the low capacity of the road, but by the insufficient passability of the intersections. Therefore, in addition to deepening, the study proposes other modifications, the passability of intersections is to improve, for example, the creation of new connecting and disconnecting lanes.
In Průmyslová, for example, the intersections with Českobrodská will be modified, where the current connection will disappear, when drivers just have to stop at the brand stop. New there will be a connecting lane. The crossroads with Štěrboholská, which is, for example, impenetrable for pedestrians and cyclists, is also waiting for the transformation. The passability through the Černokostelecká crossroads is also to improve. It will also be adjusted because the lane changes, for example in the direction from Hloubětín, block the traffic of a car turning to the South Junction.
In parallel with the roads for cars, they will be created in the Industrial Cycle Path, which will be separated from the cars. Greenery and trees will also be planted where they lead. Cyclists will have their traffic lights at crosses with entrances to industrial areas.
According to the deputy, the first work should start this year, specifically the city will modify some traffic lights and shift lanes and will also start building two sidewalks under the railway line along Kbelská Street. In the following years, according to the study, the municipality envisages the modification of the intersections in Průmyslová Street and the reconstruction of the bridge overpasses over the Rokytka Valley.
The biggest investment will be the construction of a 670-meter-long tunnel between the intersections with Poděbradská and Kolbenova streets and the related modifications to Kbelská street in Hloubětín. “As far as the state deepening itself is concerned, the capital is currently discussing the study with the basic administrative authorities concerned, and the preparation of the competition for the designer will follow,” Scheinherr added.
