Representatives of Mastercard and the City of Prague today announced the connection of Prague to Mastercard’s City Possible network. This platform will strengthen mutual cooperation in the field of tourism and improve the use of available data to improve urban development and sustainability through innovative solutions.
City Possible connects cities, societies and communities
The City Possible platform connects cities, companies and communities to stay on track to develop solutions that support inclusive and strong urban development. The aim of the platform is to enable the use of the latest technologies in the development of cities and the improvement of the quality of life in them.
The memorandum, signed today by the representatives of Mastercard and Prague, lays the foundations for supporting the sustainable development of the city. The digitization of tourism and the smart use of data to support economic recovery and growth are in a company with long-term goals of the “partnership for the digitization of the country” concluded between the Czech government and Mastercard in 2019.
Platform City Possible In just three years since its inception, it has grown from 16 founding members to an ecosystem of 325 participating and candidate cities. Prague thus joins cities and associations such as Athens, Helsinki, London, Dublin, Smart City Association Italy, New York and Los Angeles. Partner partnerships from a number of companies include major companies such as AT&T or Citi.
The cooperation of the participants in Prague is mainly based on three pillars:
- Cooperation with Prague City Tourism in the digitization of activities to support the city’s inbound tourism through the effective use of data and targeted marketing and communication activities.
- Cooperation with the City of Prague and its affiliated organizations in order to support sustainability through innovative solutions.
- Cooperation with Operátor ICT, as, a municipal joint-stock company that provides Prague with a wide range of services in the field of information and communication technologies. The cooperation will include the analysis of anonymised and aggregated consumer and purchasing data for urban planning and development.
Technological innovation plays a key role in addressing the challenges of large cities
The signing of the memorandum between Prague and Mastercard fits into the efforts of the Prague management to establish partnerships with private companies in data collection and sharing. “I believe that such partnerships will allow better analysis and planning of the city’s services and allow decisions on the development of the city based on real data instead of impressions. We want to establish such partnerships not only in the field of tourism, but also in the field of transport, for example with navigation system providers, ” said the mayor of the capital city of Prague Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates).
Technological innovation plays a key role in addressing the challenges of large cities. “Linking and sharing the know-how of private and public institutions is a way to contribute to smarter and more effective decisions for all. Whether supporting tourism, local businesses or inclusive technology solutions. I am therefore pleased that Mastercard, as a technology company, is a pioneer in this field. “ MasterCard’s CEO for the Czech Republic and Slovakia commented on the conclusion of the memorandum with the capital Michal Carny.
