PAINTING: Manu Canteau represents “the destructive side of Man”
Works inspired by German romanticism are on display until February 13.
Inspired by the German Romantic master Caspar David Friedrich, a young Burgundian painter exhibited in the Salle de la Coupole (1, rue Sainte-Anne). Manu Canteau is thus presenting twenty paintings to the Dijon public until Sunday 13 February. The exhibition is accessible from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., free entry.
Who are you ?
My name is Manu CANTEAU, I am 28 years old and I have been painting for 8 years. I am from and live in Le Creusot.
do you see us talking about your paintings?
The series presented is called “Murdered Nature”, the main idea is to represent the destructive side of Man, not only on his environment but also towards himself. I like to make symbols appear in my paintings, that’s why we find in particular red cans, yellow jumpsuits… This allows to have a common thread and a coherence in this theme.
What are your sources of inspiration?
Overall I am inspired by different elements, human nature, the sea, landscapes… Artistically artists inspire me, Caspar Friedrich, John Atkinson Grimshaw…
How many paintings make up the exhibition?
Twenty paintings are presented and also many digital works printed on aluminum. Some canvases are not available for purchase.
Why Dijon?
I chose to exhibit in Dijon because I have exhibited a lot at Le Creusot lately and I wanted to present my work elsewhere. Moreover I particularly like this city, its architecture and its surroundings, the town hall of Dijon helped me a lot for this exhibition.
