Drivers unable to pay back taxes: 3 cars towed | Antwerp
AntwerpThe police protected an action on Charles De Costerlaan and Steenplein on Monday. A total of EUR 14,000 in back taxes was collected.
For the campaign, the traffic support team worked together with the Flemish tax authorities. A total of 24 drivers with outstanding tax debts were sacked. “The tax authorities collected 14,000 euros on the spot. Three drivers could not pay 7,000 euros in taxes and saw their car towed until the debt is repaid. The team also collected 400 euros in outstanding speeding fines from two foreign drivers,” says Willem Migom of the Antwerp police zone.
Police also caught drivers of other violations. “For example, seven people drove around without a seat belt and three drivers did not have a driver’s license. Five people try to pass the file via displacement planes, pre-sorting lanes or at excessive speed. One student driver had two passengers and no ‘L’ on his car. Five cars had expired, one of which had been for more than 2 years. The police also seized an uninsured vehicle.
