Prague – The councilors of Prague 6 are against construction in the vicinity of the Džbán complex. They decided to do so today at their meeting, City Hall spokesman Jiří Hannich informed ČTK. Molepo, which owns the Džbán swimming pool, wants to build apartment buildings on land in Evropská Street. A change in the zoning plan is required for the construction at Džbán. This company conditions the reconstruction of the complex, which according to the company’s executive Jiří Němec is in a state of disrepair. The swimming pool should therefore be closed for this season, the Molepo company announced earlier on web.
“Molepo’s efforts are not in the interests of Prague 6 and its inhabitants. We do not agree with the meaningless conditions and we will not submit to them,” said the mayor of Prague 6, Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09).
According to the councilors of the sixth district, the capital should, among other things, end negotiations on changes to the zoning plan in the vicinity of Džbán and try to acquire land in the vicinity of the reservoirs. The resolution of the council was approved as a recommendation of the Prague 6 City Council. This should discuss the future of the swimming pool at its meeting on 28 February. According to its deputy mayor Jakub Stárek (ODS), the metropolis is ready to revitalize the swimming pool area in cooperation with the capital if the metropolis acquires the land and puts it under administration.
The fact that Molepo conditions the opening of the complex by changing the zoning plan in the locality was described as “unacceptable” by opposition Pirates in January, similarly by the opposition Greens in Prague 6. According to Pirates of Prague 6, the municipality had to negotiate with the company opinion.
According to the CEO of Molepo, the complex requires reconstruction and investment for about 100 million crowns. “Without the planned construction, it is not possible to reconstruct the area of the natural swimming pool or its surroundings,” Němec said on the website. According to him, the goal of Molepo is the reconstruction of the surroundings of the Džbán reservoir and the construction of apartment buildings on land in Evropská Street and along the Cube building in Prague 6.
The company wanted to build in the area before. At that time, however, the plan met with resistance from the inhabitants of Prague 6 and the town hall management. The public has also spoken out against the construction. Petitions About 9,000 people have so far signed up against the development of land in the vicinity of the Džbán reservoir. Among other things, they demand the preservation of the character of the place as a recreational and at the same time green area and the repurchase of the Džbán swimming pool and the surrounding land into public ownership.
The Molepo company acquired the entire complex in 2012 for approximately 53 million crowns and was the only participant in the auction of the property of the state-owned company Pražská kanalizace a vodní toky. The area around the reservoir is sought behind the entrance gate to the Šárka Valley. According to the current form of the zoning plan, the locality serves exclusively rest and recreation.
