Hospital staff omikron Radio DAB Prague
The rapid spread of the coronavirus variant omicron in the Czech Republic also affects healthcare. Some hospitals have therefore decided to use a work quarantine for several of their staff. It allows employees in health care and social care to go to work even if the test results are positive. The condition, however, is that they do not have symptoms of the disease. The reporter Karolína Burdová found out what the current situation in hospitals is.
According to the director of the University Hospital in Motol, Miloslav Ludvík, 26% of employees are infected and this number is growing by about another 30 people every day. Thanks to the work quarantine, they do not have to close any department, so the measure does not affect the operation of the hospital. It is similar in Bulovka in other hospitals. Last week, the number of hospitalizations in Prague hospitals was 328, and there were 63 patients in intensive care units. Despite the fact that the number of hospitalized people with covid-19 in Prague hospitals has doubled in the last three weeks, the current numbers do not even reach the far-filled hospitals in the spring of 2021.
The situation in Slaný is very critical. Despite the fact that there are about 30 patients and all in the standard ward with the covid at the moment, the main problem is the lack of staff. Dozens of them are now quarantined or isolated. The hospital therefore had to cancel all planned operations and according to director of the hospital Štěpán Votoček u Many employees have just introduced job quarantine.
They also use the work quarantine in the Kladno hospital. There, however, each department handles it separately. And, for example, in the Příbram hospital, there are currently 8 paramedics in quarantine. The number of employees in the Cologne hospital has doubled in the last two weeks, to about 20.
Hospitals in quarantine mode before. Especially last spring, when many health professionals were missing due to coronavirus. If they had an asymptomatic course of the disease, they were enlisted under stricter measures.
