damage during a burglary in Saint-Bonaventure
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, trunk looters committed serious damage to the Saint-Bonaventure basilica, place des Cordeliers in Lyon (2nd), before being arrested.
Around 4:15 a.m., a police rescue team on patrol in the peninsula spotted two suspicious individuals at Les Cordeliers, carrying backpacks. As they were about to check them on rue President Carnot, the two men tried to get rid of the coins. They came from the trunks of Saint-Bonaventure, where the police noted in particular numerous degradations, in the sacristy.
A stained glass window also damaged
According to initial findings, a stained glass window was also damaged and the burglars stole a video surveillance terminal. The two men, of Romanian nationality, were taken into custody. They were brought to court on Monday for a judgment in immediate comparison.
Asked, the Saint-Bonaventure basilica did not wish to comment on the event immediately.
The building, whose main facade is being restored, remains closed on Monday, but should reopen fairly quickly during the week. “The damage is not colossal”, reassures a member of the community.
