Ryanair drops investment in Norway – E24
The low-cost airline Ryanair will still not implement the investment in Norway which was planned before this year’s summer season.
Ryanair is in the process of building dozens of new routes in Scandinavia. Originally, the company wanted to start eight new routes from Oslo, but it will not happen, reports website Flysmart24.
Ryanair will remain in place with its existing three routes from Gardermoen, to London, Vilnius and Katowice.
– It may be that it will use its aircraft in other markings which give better returns than in Norway. Ryanair will deliver a significant deficit for the current financial year, says analyst Hans Jørgen Elnæs in WinAir.
Ryanair has not responded to Flysmart24’s requests for comment.
Flysmart24 writes that Ryanair had applied for departure and landing rights for new routes: From Gardermoen to Paris, Mallorca, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Alicante, Berlin, Brussels and Malaga.
Cut expectations
In December, Ryanair downgraded the estimates for the financial year, as for those lasting out of March. The new virus variant omikron led to an emergency brake in world air traffic.
Ryanair had estimated that they would lose between 100 and 200 million euros, but in December they expected a double loss, of between 250 and 450 million euros.
Ryanair’s fiscal year 2020 showed a loss of 815 million euros, over eight billion kroner.
Norwegian airlines have also been hit hard by the corona virus. Norwegian underwent an extensive restructuring, and SAS has long had major problems. The newly started airline Flyr, which wanted to take up the fight on domestic routes, has also had a very difficult start and the share has been severely punished on the Stock Exchange.
