The Calais dragon returns to service after five weeks of maintenance
On the first day of the school holidays, the famous mechanical creature will once again welcome visitors, without a gauge.
The Calais dragon will roam the streets of the city again from this Saturday after five weeks of maintenance.
The mechanical creature offered itself a complete upgrade, including a verification of its networks and some new features, like its hulls which have regained color and been varnished.
A new journey
Brand new, the dragon will be able to accommodate 48 people on board, equipped with a mask and a valid health pass. In total, six walks are carried out this Saturday, with “a route accessible to people with reduced mobility” in the morning, specifies Jean-Philippe Javello, general manager of the Compagnie du dragon de Calais at BFM Lille.
And contrary to usual, visitors will not pass by the waterfront, due to the wintry weather.
“In the afternoon we go to the lifeguard station and we come back, so we don’t go to the seafront during this period, because if the weather conditions become bad it forces us to re-move the course, so we prefer do a slightly shorter route. And then there is less interest in being on the seafront at the moment” explains Jean-Philippe Javello.
The dragon should find its way back to the sea from the April holidays.
