The imitation of the Charles Bridge in Dobříš was closed due to a state of emergency
“We are preparing the fastest solution to stabilize the bridge so that we can return at least a shuttle service with a limited load. Freight transport has a significant share in this situation, with heavy cars driving most of them despite the ban, “said Petra Kučerová, a spokeswoman for the regional administration and road maintenance.
The bridge over the Pilský brook was originally wanted by the road workers to be demolished and replaced by a new building. However, the Dobříš Ornamental Association did not agree with the protest petition made by the Dobříš and Central Bohemian representatives.
The bridge was declared a monument the year before, and its demolition was definitively averted. According to earlier information, the repair was to begin in 2023.
Jan Lichtneger, director of the regional administration and road maintenance, said last year that it was necessary to rework the project documentation before the repair, and that negotiations with conservationists would also take some time.
According to a petition, the historic bridge was built around 1830 as a miniature replica of Charles Bridge in Prague. The chairman of the ornamental association, Petr Kadlec, pointed out that this is the last classic stone bridge in Dobříš that has survived to the present day.
The bridge was built in memory of the tragic event when a carriage with the bride Maria Anna Kloibrova from Cesky Krumlov in June 1829 overturned in a ford and the girl drowned in the flooded Pilský brook. Her family paid for the construction.
