The branch of the Municipal Library in Prague in Petřiny should cost about 226 million
Prague – The new branch of the Municipal Library in Prague (MKP) in Petřiny should start construction in the spring, the construction should cost a total of about 226 million crowns. The construction work should last 13 months, the library should open to readers in the autumn of 2023. Prague Councilor Hana Třeštíková and MLP Director Tomáš Řehák told the press today.
“We perceive the branches of the city library not only as a place to borrow and return a book, but recently they also have the function of a cultural and community center, and we want to emphasize this role. , “ said Třeštíková, under his responsibility is culture and tourism in the metropolis.
The branch will be built by a consortium of Subterra and Chládek & Tintěra, which won a two-round public contract. At the end of January, the winner of the tender was selected by a commission of six companies that submitted a final bid. The companies Subterra and Chládek & Tintěra have offered to build a library branch for about 203 million crowns, library spokeswoman Lenka Hanzlíková told ČTK. Demolition of the current library building should begin in March and construction work on the new branch in Mahulenina Street should begin in May. The construction should be completed in 2023, and in the autumn of that year, according to Řehák, a new branch should be opened to readers.
The new building will be designed by architects from the Monom studio and the Zavadil studio. Architects from the Monom studio also prepared a design of the branch’s interior equipment. This will create a building in which there will be, among other things, a hall for about 60 people and spaces for so-called coworking, study or creative meetings. The library will be freely connected to the garden and there will be a terrace for outdoor seating. People will be able to return books or borrow self-service equipment without the assistance of a librarian outside the branch’s opening hours.
The current branch in Petřiny was established in the 1950s together with the Petřiny housing estate. Despite the general reconstruction in the early 1990s, according to the library spokeswoman Lenka Hanzlíková, the technical condition of the building ceased to suit the same as the size and layout of the building. The original Petřina branch was closed to readers in October 2021 due to the planned construction of a new building.
The plan to build the library was made ten years ago. In 2016, the architects prepared a project that received a zoning decision. The building permit was issued in the middle of 2021.
