Test track required in Zurich – self-driving cars between Bucheggplatz and Hönggerberg?
Self-driving cars between Bucheggplatz and Hönggerberg?
“Pioneers” or “guinea pigs”: The city parliament argues and wants a test with semi-autonomous vehicles.
The city of Zurich should play a pioneering role in the development of self-driving and autonomous vehicles: on Wednesday evening, the municipal council submitted an FDP postulate calling for test routes in the city of Zurich.
Self-driving vehicles lead to fewer accidents and traffic jams and are more efficient, which is more environmentally friendly, said Hans Dellenbach (FDP). This promotes cooperation between the modes of transport. «The mobility of the future should be designed in an ecological and customer-friendly way.»
He is considering the section from Bucheggplatz to the ETH Hönggerberg as a test route. Such a route is intended to provide experience in the field of autonomous mobility. “The first attempt is not always profitable and often goes wrong,” says Dellenbach.
Fired by «Techboys from Silicon Valley»
This is exactly one of the problems that the Greens fear: “The FDP will not let mature systems loose on the people,” said Markus Knauss. This should not be tested under real conditions, but on test plots. “The urban population should not become the guinea pigs of the automotive industry.”
In addition, partially or fully autonomous vehicles make no contribution to ecological transport as long as it is still individual transport. According to Knauss, this consumes too many resources. It is a premature idea that was fueled by the “Techboys from Silicon Valley”.
The municipal council passed the postulancy by a vote of 89 to 22.
