teachers, parents and students mobilized
Already last Monday, they had done an action of this type. To be heard and noticed. In front of the Lycée Montchapet, teachers, students and some parents gathered to denounce the reduction in the hourly allocation applied by the rectorate for two years.
“We lost 90 hours in two years. The first action on Monday was aimed at making everyone aware of the situation. Today is confirmation, several students are joining us. The idea is to be visible”, explains Cécile Fassier, professor of philosophy.
“We are left behind”
At the start of the next school year, a first technology class and a general terminal class should close. “We have a school project where we put resources on the technological series which make up students who come from difficult social backgrounds and we will end up with three classes instead of four. In the general terminal, we end up with five classes of 35 students without the repeaters. Under these conditions, how can we ensure support with everyone? “, denounces Cécile Fassier.
Last year, already, the teachers had protested against the first reduction of 45 hours, in an institutional way, by asking for an audience with the rectorate. “We protested but gently, we remained wise. We had the impression of being heard at the hearing and in the end we were suppressed for 45 hours. We are left behind, ”contests Cécile Fassier.
In the event of non-return from the rectorate on the decision to abolish these 45 hours, stronger actions could be taken. The teachers are considering stepping down from their positions as head teachers as well as their seat on the board of trustees.
Options deleted, copings become impossible
“We calculated, over five years, we lost 187 hours”, informs Cécile Fassier. Today, everyone is asking for a 100-hour increase to “work properly” or at least, that the 45-hour reduction project be abandoned. “We removed options such as modern languages 2 in the upper classes (prepas, BTS), Latin. We could no longer do splits in second for mathematics and French, as it is however requested by the National Education, for lack of means. We recovered seven hours from the rectorate, six which allowed us to recreate an EPS group because with 35 students in the same group, in terms of security, it was not possible, and one for duplication in math, but we are still a long way off. »
“Some rooms do not have a capacity of 35 students”
For Maxence, student representative on the board of directors, this mobilization is important: “Each year, the hourly allocation decreases. This year it was 45 hours. Next year, they are authorized to close a class of STMG and a class of terminale. It’s quite dramatic, the learning conditions have deteriorated. Numbers will increase and some rooms, such as the computer room, do not have a capacity of 35 students. Our presence this morning is important, especially as a student representative. »
Cécilia Lerouge is a literature teacher. For her, “the health crisis has had a strong impact on the students, who have provided certain shortcomings. We sent that they need individualized support. Losing resources is in a way not being able to do our job properly. Losing more classes is impossible to envisage. We are fed up. »
“A form of betrayal for our students and what we do our job for”
Estelle Dalla Via, also a literature teacher, regrets that “this year, there are eight second-year classes, all of which have 35 students. these are really overstaffed. Under these conditions, having duplication is vital, in order to be able to implement the new programs which are ambitious and very rich. With the new programs, we have a baccalaureate that puts the oral in the spotlight, we devote a large oral to it.
It is over three years that he is preparing. If we remove the duplication, it’s a lost opportunity to put our students in confidence, to help them find the codes of oral because it can not be improvised. It is a form of betrayal for our students and a betrayal of what we do our job for. There is no rational explanation on the part of the rectorate to explain this choice. »
A hundred people mobilized in front of the establishment this Thursday morning.
Contacted, the rectorate did not wish to comment “following the protest movements at this time of year”.
