Siena: construction site and parking problems in via Roma, the point of Deputy Mayor Corsi
Siena City Council, the restoration of the stretch of via Roma affected by a construction site in the question of Claudio Cerretani (In Campo) which, as he explained in his illustration, “was placed, from 1 March 2021, on the right side of the road for the safety of the wall and the imitation grating of the monumental complex of the former San Niccolò psychiatric hospital, with the consequent reduction of the carriageway and parking spaces “.
“The Porta Romana area – continued Cerretani – has for some time been subjected to a consistent traffic flow linked not only to residents, but also to the presence of schools and universities, as well as tourists from the southern part of the city. A situation that, for some time now, has created considerable parking problems that will only get worse with the next activation of the Aru di Valli “. For these, the councilor asked “what are the expected times for the completion of the works and the reasons for the construction site, as well as what measures are intended to be taken to solve the problem of traffic and parking in the Porta Romana and Via Piccolomini area. “.
Deputy Mayor Andrea Corsi in answering the question specified that “this intervention, on the basis of the information obtained, is to be carried out in partnership between the University of Siena and the South East Tuscany AUSL. We have urged them several times to have information on the timing and we were told that it is in the planning stage for this year while we have not received any precise forecast for the duration “. Concluding that “with regard to the last point of the question, the Superintendency denied the design of a rest area”, adding that “it will be up to the Administration to weave a relationship with the new manager for the construction of an area, in the internal part of Porta Romana, which can dare to respond to the parking needs of citizens “.
Cerretani said he was “not entirely satisfied despite the timely reply given that after a year the start date of the works is not yet known”. Recalling that “the narrowing of the carriageway is a traffic problem that also gives an idea of abandonment and precariousness and a consequent not beautiful image of Siena since it is one of the important entrances to the city, and that today we are still far from being resolved the problem of parking for residents and visitors “.
