Sam’s market: Veterinarians and customs officers found battered fish and 300 kilos of non-compliant food
In one of the stores in the Vietnamese Sapa market, the trader offered about 100 kilograms of poultry without identification and proof of origin. Veterinarians also found 75 kilograms of meat products without a label and the necessary documentation. In freezing boxes, she stored 80 kilograms of unmarked frozen fish, cuttlefish, squid, shrimp and several kilograms of other products such as pig intestines and skins in unsuitable hygienic conditions.
“By placing food of unknown origin on the market, the seller has committed a serious infringement. It was not possible to verify where the animals were kept, whether they were healthy or given medicines. The health status of the farm was not known, nor was it possible to determine whether the health safety of the meat had been assessed, “said Petr Majer on behalf of the State Veterinary Administration (SVS). He added that the consumption of such products is very risky.
The merchant also sold live fish. I was in too small and crowded vats with insufficient water oxygenation. “Veterinary inspectors have ordered the vendors to immediately move the fish to larger containers, ensure higher oxygenation of the water and killing several fish in the worst health condition so that their suffering does not continue“Majer said.
During this inspection, customs officers stopped vehicles coming to and from the premises. Veterinarians found errors in identifying the transported food of plant origin. The case will be referred to the State Agricultural and Food Inspection Authority. “Customs officers also lustrated the inspected persons in the debtors’ database that day and managed to collect the outstanding amount of 3,000 crowns,” Majer added.
