The number of hospitalized with covid-19 in Prague hospitals has doubled in the last three weeks. There were 328 of them on Wednesday and 52 of them in the last day. There are about a third more patients in intensive care units in the same period, there are currently 63. This follows from data published by the Ministry of Health.

According to the Hygiene Station of the Capital City of Prague, more than 405,000 Praguers, which is about a third of the population, have already become infected with coronavirus. Experts estimate that people usually get into a condition that requires hospitalization within a week to ten days of infection. In previous coronavirus variants, about a third of infected seniors needed hospital care. In the last two weeks, more than 4,500 people over the age of 65 have tested positive in Prague. Of the 328 currently hospitalized, about two thirds, 223 and 49 are in the ICU.
Less tested
Overall, the number of daily positive test takers in Prague has begun to decline. While last week the daily average was almost 5,600, this week is about 4,800 for the first three days, while the weekends, when less tested, are even lower.
However, the situation is deteriorating in the surrounding regions. In mid-January, Prague was the worst region among the districts in terms of 100,000 positively tested inhabitants per week.
There are currently 17 districts that are worse off. Most of them are in the Central Bohemian and Pilsen regions, but also in the Ústí nad Labem, Hradec Králové, Pardubice or South Moravian, Zlín and Moravian-Silesian regions. The worst is currently the district of Mladá Boleslav with 2968.5 tested positive per 100,000 inhabitants per week, the best is the district of Bruntál with 1629.
