“One day I want to open my own beauty institute where I sell bracelets, place gel nails and give massages, facials and pedicures.” That’s how it sounds barely a year ago when we interviewed Amber De Keyser for our series with the ten ‘daring’, entrepreneurs who die in full corona crisis took a leap. Amber closed her events agency and retrained herself as a beautician. Then they opened her beauty salon Ambi’eauty and a webshop with exclusive jewellery.
100%
Amber did not win the competition of ‘the daredevils’. That honor went to Studio Curieus, a circular fashion label from Turnhout that has ceased to exist. “Nevertheless, my participation was a nice boost to continue as I was doing. It was a fun experience and a great opportunity. I also got a lot of reactions to it, from people I hadn’t heard for a long time and who saw me in the newspaper.”
The farewell to the events sector, in which Amber was also able to present beautiful letters of nobility, seems final. “Ambi’eauty is 100% my thing. It has become a passion that I hope I can share for the rest of my life. People see that I am happy here. My friends even blame me for professional deformity when I look at their eyebrows instead of their eyes during a conversation (laughs). I don’t think I’ll ever want to do anything else.”
Americalei
Amber her clients in a studio above her mother’s office in Rijkevorsel. It was also her mother who found a new location for Ambi’eauty in Antwerp, at a special location. “My second branch is located in Amerikalei, right opposite the Palace of Justice. I now receive customers in Rijkevorsel one day a week, the other five days I commute to Antwerp. I offer the same services at both locations: including manicure, placing gel nails, facial care, eyelash lifting and sugar hair removal.”
Before Ambi’eauty settled there, Justitia Nails was located at the same address. “It was already a nice space, we only had to do a few small things. I wanted to open something bigger in the city and have now been able to make my dream come true.” In the weekend of February 5 and 6 Amber is organizing a ‘grand opening’. “People can come and get acquainted and take part in the new business. There are nice gifts for the customers. Due to the corona measures, reservation of a time slot is mandatory.”
